No kayaking (or cookie decorating) experience required to enjoy decorating this kayaking themed beginner cookie set.
This set includes four designs, all on rectangle cookies: an open water kayak with a glassy wake, a paddling POV into a fall treeline, a winding river through the forest, and a mid-stroke paddle splash. I wanted to capture different perspectives of being on the water – overhead, first-person, scenic, and action – all in one set!
I grew up in a family of kayakers. I’ve taken actual kayaking lessons (a sentence I’m not sure many people say). But somewhere along the way my back decided kayaking wasn’t for me, so now I SUP instead and admire kayaks from a distance. Turns out that’s plenty of qualification to design a cookie set around them.
Wet-On-Wet Icing With A Drag Technique Details
This set leans on two techniques:
- Wet-on-wet icing for the water, wakes, and splash, letting colors sit directly next to each other on the cookie while the icing is still wet
- The drag technique for the fall treeline where you’ll piping different colors of icing and using a scribe tool to drag them creating different shapes and blending the colors slightly
The drag technique isn’t new…but it might be new to you. It’s one of those techniques that looks fancy but just requires a little patience and a paper towel nearby to wipe your scribe tool between drags.
The wet-on-wet approach means no waiting between icing steps, so things can move quickly. The more time you take on each step, the more your icing will harden and create dimension, which can look cool here, too!
